GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Olivet Nazarene University baseball team traveled to Georgetown College and lost 3-2 in a nine-inning game on Thursday. Ryan Russman's two-RBI single in the sixth inning accounted for the Tiger's two runs on the day.
Aren Gustafson was given the nod to take the mound as ONU's starting pitcher to open the three-game series against GC. The right-handed hurler out of Rockton, Ill. faced 28 batters in seven innings of work striking out seven of them to match a season-high. Gustafson allowed eight hits giving up a home run and three earned runs before handing it off to Jonathan Simpson to finish the game.
Georgetown hit a double in the bottom of the third inning to open the scoring with two runs. The Purple and Gold put two Tyler Wheeler and Jacob Bulthuis on second and third before Russman drove them home to record his eighth and ninth RBIs of the season and level the scoreboard. The home side responded the next inning with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning. ONU looked to extend the ball game in the bottom of the ninth by advancing Nolan Louis into scoring position with two outs, but GC shut the door getting out of the jam with the strikeout to end the contest.
