TIGERS BOUNCE BACK WITH SWEEP AT CALUMET

WHITING, Ind. — Olivet Nazarene University (7-18, 5-6) swept Calumet College of St. Joseph (2-17, 1-10) in a straight-sets victory at the Rittenmeyer Center on Saturday, winning 25-15, 25-20, 25-20.

Olivet initiated the first set with steady contributions from Naomi Monney-Hori and Skylar Dorsey, quickly leveling the score after an initial point by Calumet. The Tigers then established momentum with a series of kills by Brynn Nikonchuk and Analiese Fredin, extending their lead to 8-4, prompting a timeout from the Crimson Wave. Olivet continued to dominate following the timeout, capitalizing on Calumet's errors and a service ace by Fredin to maintain their edge. Despite a brief rally by Calumet, the Tiger's consistency was evident as they closed the set with a strong defensive block by Fredin and Emma Edmonds, securing a 25-15 victory in the opening set.

ONU continued their assertive play in the second set against Calumet, starting with Monney-Hori's effective attacking and Dorsey's precise setting, which contributed to an early 5-2 lead. Olivet extended their advantage to 16-7, forcing the Crimson Wave to use their timeouts in order to try and halt the momentum. Calumet responded with a series of points to narrow the gap, but Olivet maintained composure, with Nikonchuk contributing key kills on the way to a 25-20 win for ONU.

In the third set, Olivet began with a 6-0 run as Monney-Hori added both a kill and a service ace. Dorsey facilitated the offense effectively, assisting multiple kills by Ayla Dorsey, Fredin, and Nikonchuk. Calumet rallied and tied the set at 7-7, but ONU reclaimed control with a kill by Edmonds and a block by Nikonchuk. Monney-Hori continued to excel, helping extend the lead with additional kills and a crucial block. Despite a late surge from Calumet, Olivet eventually capitalized on errors from the Crimson Wave to maintain their advantage. A final service error by the Crimson Wave sealed the set for the Tigers, closing it out at 25-20.

Monney-Hori led the team with 15 kills and a .423 hitting percentage, contributing 18 points. Dorsey was pivotal, adding 22 assists and 10 digs while also serving two aces.
