BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Olivet Nazarene (IL) (23-6) defeated Holy Cross (15-14), 109-87 in a CCAC Quarterfinals matchup, at McHie Arena.
Olivet opened the game with a strong defensive effort, forcing seven steals and converting them into points. The Tigers capitalized on turnovers to fuel a 19–4 run in the paint. Preslee Michael and Lindsey Nell contributed in the first quarter, with Michael scoring a big And 1 at the 31-second mark. The Tigers finished the first quarter ahead 29–14.
In classic Tigerball fashion, they used a big second-quarter run to extend their lead. Highlighted by a pair of back-to-back 3-pointers from Jayden Flagg at 8:02 and 7:51. The team's defense was also effective, forcing multiple turnovers and capitalizing with scoring from players like Calee Biedron and Nell, who added a three-pointer at the 32-second mark. Olivet's efficient shooting and control of the game allowed it to hold a commanding 68–38 lead over Holy Cross at the half.
In the third quarter, Olivet maintained its lead, bolstered by a strong defensive presence and efficient scoring in the paint. Brooklyn Marshall had a big third-quarter, converting both layups and free throws, helping the Tigers withstand Holy Cross' attempts to close the gap. After three quarters the Tigers maintained a 87-59 lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Tigers maintained control with a solid performance in the paint and contributions from the bench. Biedron was all over the court in the fourth, including multiple layups and steals, helping sustain their lead. Holy Cross played hard to the final buzzer, winning the fourth quarter. However, the Tigers came away with a 109-87 victory.
Biedron led the Tigers and scored a career high 21 points and contributed six assists with three steals. Nell continued her hot scoring and added 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and added five steals. . Marshall finished with 15 points, making 7 of 8 free throws, and grabbed four rebounds.
The Tigers advance to the Semifinals to take on the #5 seed Governors State Jaguars on Thursday at 5:30pm in McHie Arena.
