BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - Olivet Nazarene University delivered a dramatic and hard‑fought 4–3 victory over St. Ambrose University on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers showcased resilience and clutch performances in singles play to secure the match. The contest, which lasted three hours, swung back and forth before the Tigers ultimately claimed the deciding points.
The matchup opened with doubles play, where St. Ambrose seized early momentum by winning two of the three doubles matches. Olivet's pairing of Chatton Haws and Paul Saleh earned an early 6–1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Martin Melnizky and Lucas Latil dropped their No. 2 doubles match 6–4 and Adam Hartford and Keenan Haws battled to a narrow 7-5 defeat. St. Ambrose secured the crucial doubles point to take an early 1–0 lead.
Facing a 1-0 deficit heading into singles, the Tigers responded with two quick victories when Chatton Haws won his No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-1 and Saleh secured the win in No. 2 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-3. Keenan Haws made it three in a row for the Tigers when he closed out a 6-1, 6-4 win in No. 6 singles.
St. Ambrose stayed in the match with crucial victories in No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Those points evened the overall score at 3-3 with only one singles match ongoing.
In No. 3 singles, Latil claimed the first set 6-2 and then dropped the second set 6-4. In the third and deciding set, Latil fell behind 2-5 early before winning four straight sets to go ahead 6-5. After the match was leveled at 6-6, Latil would go on to secure the match and overall team victory with a thrilling final tiebreaker win.
With the win, the Tigers claimed the #3 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
