WILMINGTON, Ill. – Hunter Trainor made the all-tournament team to lead the Olivet Nazarene University men's golf team to a runner-up finish at their home tournament, the Bill Johnson Memorial, played Monday and Tuesday at the Cinder Ridge Golf Course.
Trainor, a senior from Pontiac, Ill., fired the tournament's best round with a three-under 69 in the opening round before closing with consecutive 79s to earn a tie for fourth place and a spot on the all-tournament team.
Joseph Luchtenburg joined his teammate in the top 10, taking one stroke off each round to land in a tie for ninth place overall (78-77-76). Jack Rimington (87-74-78) and Chris Brown (75-88-77) finished within one shot of each other to round out the scoring for ONU in 17th and 18th place, respectively. Brock Taylor also competed for ONU's top team, placing 22nd (82-84-77).
The strong first round propelled ONU to the second-place team finish, carding a 926 across the three-round tournament to secure runner-up out of seven teams. Illinois Wesleyan took the team title at 887.
ONU fielded two additional teams at their home event. Jackson Reece, Luke Martin, Trey Roessler, Landen Cederburg, and Connor Banks played on the B team that secured fourth place overall. Mason Uden, Johnny Adams, Austin Maricer, and Connor Schaafsma comprised the C team that placed sixth as a unit.
The Tigers will travel east to compete in the NAIA National Preview hosted by St. Ambrose beginning Monday Sept. 22.
