WILMINGTON, Ill. – Taylor Ice and Lizzie Howard battled for individual medalist honors to lead the Olivet Nazarene University women's golf team at their home tournament, the Bill Johnson Memorial, played Monday and Tuesday at the Cinder Ridge Golf Course.
The ONU duo, who both earned first-team all-conference recognition from the CCAC a season ago, ended the two-round tournament in a deadlock atop the leaderboard at 155. Howard fired the tournament's best round with a 74 in the opener before closing at 81 while Ice carded a 76 and 79 to reach the number.
The score was settled via sudden-victory playoff, with Ice prevailing on the second hole to claim individual medalist honors at the home event.
Two other Tigers earned all-tournament finishes to round out the ONU scoring. Mya Jones finished just four strokes behind her teammates, shooting an 80 and 79 to place third, while Amelia Birge secured fifth place with a 176 (86-90). Bella Rosado carded a 180 to place seventh..
A second ONU team competed in the event. Sophie Burns led that group with a sixth-place finish (86-92). Also competing were Alex Scalise (90-94), Jenna Zarges (88-99), Grace Cates (95-97), and Lauren Fox (100-94).
ONU will compete in the Battle at Blackthorn beginning Monday, Sept. 22 at the Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
