AUSTIN, Texas – Jake Ostema was named to the prestigious 2023 Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team, as voted on by College Sports Communicators (CSC). Ostema, a member of the Olivet Nazarene University men's volleyball team, was one of just 15 student-athletes named to the 15-member first team.
The CSC Academic All-America Team is comprised of student-athletes from NAIA institutions, who are selected based on their work athletically and in the classroom. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, sophomores or older, with at least 3.50 cumulative grade point averages. The men's at-large team includes student-athletes from the following sports: bowling, competitive cheer, competitive dance, golf, lacrosse, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling.
Ostema, from Orland Park, Ill., is a five-time CCAC all-conference selection. He was twice named a CCAC Player of the Week, once as a defender and the other as an attacker, leading the Tigers in both total blocks (82) and hitting percentage (.432) while being second on the team in total kills (216). A 2022 graduate of Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill., Ostema is currently pursuing his Master's of Business Administration at Olivet Nazarene University.
Ostema is the seventh Tiger to earn CSC Academic All-America recognition this year. He joins Justin Eisenmann (men's soccer), Nick Kilian (men's soccer), Megan Schroeder (women's swim & dive), Mason Beall (men's swim & dive), and Nicholas Klenner (men's swim & dive) as a first team academic all-American this year. Fabio Hasler (men's soccer) earned second team honors.
