RV ONU BOUNCE BACK WITH A SHUTOUT WIN OVER THE LAKERS

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The RV Olivet Nazarene University women's soccer program returned to their winning ways as they defeated the Lakers of Roosevelt University 3-0 Saturday night. Emily Greene starred in the match with a goal and an assist while Melea Miller and Katie Knutte netted goals in the match. Freshman goalkeeper, Trinity Vallejo, recorded her first career shutout in her debut.

ONU had two quick strikes to set the tone and give the Tigers a comfortable lead early. Greene fed Miller down the left side of the field. The freshman attacker knifed her way past two RU defenders before scoring at the 7:11-mark. Greene doubled the Olivet advantage will only 2:11 coming off the clock between scores. The St. Anne, Ill. native stole the ball from the Lakers' backline just outside the top of the box and ripped a shot to the top-right corner of the goal to bring the score to 2-0.

Halftime: RV Olivet Nazarene 2, Roosevelt

Roosevelt began the second half with sustained pressure in ONU's defensive half of the field. RU's Meaghan Smith had the visitors' best opportunity of the match to halve the deficit, but her headed attempt steered wide of the mark. Knutte put the game away in the 76th minute. The senior midfielder got two bites at the apple as her first attempt on the net was saved but made no mistake on the second. With the game in hand, the Tigers' backline locked up allowing only three shot attempts with zero on goal in the second period. Olivet went on to claim their ninth win on the season with the final 3-0.
