ONU WOMEN DOMINATE HOME MEET; PICK UP WINS OVER AQUINAS, BETHEL

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Hosting their first meet at their home pool in the Perry Center, the Olivet Nazarene University women's swim & dive team picked up a pair of dominant wins over Aquinas and Bethel (Tenn.).

The scores for the tri-meet were as follows:

Olivet Nazarene: 200 – Bethel (Tenn.): 26
Olivet Nazarene: 193 – Aquinas: 66

ONU opened the meet up with 1-2 finishes in the 400-medley relay, which was a sign of things to come for the Tigers. Another 1-2 finish was found in the 400-freestyle relay to close out the meet for ONU.

Grace Barnhart racked up wins in the distance events; the 1650 freestyle (18:29.54) and the 500 freestyle (5:19.28). Logan Carley found the podium in both of these freestyle events as well, taking second in the 1650 (18:57.93) and third in the 500 (5:31.82), while Katelyn Inman placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:26.44). Inman earned another silver medal in the 200 freestyle (2:03.43) while Halle Briner took the top spot in that same event (1:59.58).

ONU swept the podium in four-straight sprint events. In the 100 backstroke, Paige Howell took the gold (1:01.93), Abbie Christensen took second (1:04.67) and Kayla Mol placed third (1:05.09). In the 100 breaststroke, Julieta Vega finished first (1:06.22), Allison Pearson took silver (1:07.30), and Sara Norman took third (1:12.89). Taylor King then dashed to a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle (25.81), while Norman placed second (26.03) and Mia Points (26.13) finished third. Lastly, Briner (55.35), Inman (57.11) and Norman (57.30) went 1-2-3 in the 100 freestyle.

The Tigers continued their dominance in the 200 breaststroke, going 1-2-3 once again. This time it was Pearson first (2:25.96), Vega second (2:26.19), and Norman third (2:39.63). King took second (1:02.84) while Mol placed third (1:04.85) in the 100 butterfly. The Tigers closed out the meet with another podium sweep, with Pearson in first (4:44.76), Vega in second (4:53.40), and Rachael DeVries (5:09.03).

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The ONU women's swim & dive team will stay put in the Perry Center as they welcome St. Ambrose to town for a dual meet on Saturday, Oct. 22.
