BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's tennis teams hosted the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central East Regional at the Snowbarger Athletic Complex on Thursday through Saturday.
In day one of play, four Tigers survive to play another day in singles play. Each Tiger played one match except Chieh-Yu Chen who played a pair of matches. Chen won her first match and dropped her second one. Coco Ruggiero, Anja Mijailovic, Nirva Patel, No. 6 Narjis Mzibri, Mara Perez Guillen all won their only match of the night. Everyone won in straight sets except for Mijailovic, who won in three sets after dropping the first set. There were no women's doubles matches in day one of action.
In day two of action, Mzibri was the only Tiger to survive and advance to the quarterfinals of singles defeating Perez Guillen of ONU and Meyer of William Woods. Also, in women's singles, Nirva Patel upset the No. 4 seed Lizano and Guillen Perez knocked off Meaurio-Martin of the St. Louis School of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. In doubles action, Patel and Yu-Chen upset the No. 5 team from Judson, 9-8. The team of Mijailovic and Perez Guillen picked up a pair of wins upsetting the No. 8 team from St. Francis (Ill), 8-6 and outlasted a team from St. Louis Health Science and Pharmacy, 8-4. Also advancing to day three is the team of Mzibri and Moyo. The Tiger duo won their first match, 8-5, and second 8-4.
In days three and four, The Tigers saw a trio of doubles teams still alive. The only team to advance to Championship Sunday was the duo of Mzibri and Moyo, who took down the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. In the finals, the Tiger duo ran into the No. 1 seed from Holy Cross and unfortunately suffered a third-set tiebreak setback. In singles, Mzibri was the lone Tiger competing. Like doubles, Mzibri took on and upset the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. In the final, Narjis met with the No. 1 seed Zavala from Holy Cross and dropped the match in a third-set tiebreak.
