BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – In their final games of the regular season, the Olivet Nazarene University baseball team celebrated its seniors with a nonconference series against Roosevelt.
The Tigers dropped the road doubleheader Friday at Ozinga Field by scores of 6-5 and 3-0. ONU bounced back with a 7-3 in Saturday's opener at Watson Field before falling in the finale 15-4.
ONU jumped out to an early lead in the series opener behind a four-spot in the second inning. Sam Reczek, Masen Beatty, and Takumi Kimoto all recorded RBIs in the big inning before the Lakers (13-31) came storming back with a four-spot of their own to tie the score. Reczek dropped a sacrifice bunt for his third RBI of the game to retake the lead in the sixth, but RU would plate two runs in the final inning to walk it off.
The offense went missing for ONU in the 3-0 defeat Friday night, but it returned in the opener at Watson Field Saturday. RU jumped ahead by three after two innings, but the Tigers fought back with seven runs to take the lead on the win. The rally was punctuated by a four-spot in the fifth, with Jack Dupuis and Alex Seaton plating RBIs in the big inning to secure the victory.
The Tigers will now turn their attention to the postseason, where they will take on Viterbo in the opening round of the CCAC Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Slammers Stadium.
