KANKAKEE, Ill. – In a thrilling display of skill and teamwork, Tiger Hockey delivered a stunning upset over #25-ranked Florida Gulf Coast University, securing a decisive 5-1 win on Friday night. Powered by a standout performance in goal from junior Connor Nugent and a relentless defensive effort, the Tigers set the tone early and never looked back.
The Tigers wasted no time getting on the board. Just 1:42 into the first period, Noah Domagalski capitalized on a breakaway opportunity to score the opening goal, assisted by Carson McNeely. Less than a minute later, Roan Burke added another goal, giving the Tigers a quick 2-0 advantage and silencing the home crowd.
The momentum carried into the second period, where Tommy Murray III extended the Tigers' lead with a goal at the 15:13 mark, assisted by McNeely. Murray struck again with just 1:23 remaining in the period, this time with assists from Domagalski and Carson Lyke, pushing the lead to 4-0.
Domagalski found the back of the net once more in the third period, scoring his second goal of the night at 15:16 to seal the victory for the Tigers.
Meanwhile, Nugent was a force in net, recording a season-high 53 saves to frustrate FGCU's offense. The Eagles managed their lone goal at the 10:01 mark of the third period, courtesy of Brett Cameron, but it wasn't enough to mount a comeback.
This statement win showcased the Tigers' potential and resilience as they took down a nationally ranked opponent on the road. With Nugent's heroics in goal and a balanced offensive effort led by Domagalski, Murray, and McNeely, the Tigers demonstrated they are a team to watch this season.
