TIGERS SAW MULTPLE ALL-AMERICAN PERFORMANCES AT THE 2022 NAIA INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's track and field team traveled to Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on the campus of South Dakota State University for the 2022 NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday through Saturday.

 

The Tigers saw a handful of athletes compete in day one of the Championships.  In the prelims of the 5,000-meter run, Sarai Vargas finished 17th with a time of 18:03.38.  Jaclyn Latocha also raced in the event and finished in 27th place with a time of 18:47.50. In the prelims of the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Hannah Antkoviak, Kimberly Brent, Tera Miller, and Linda Griffith qualified for the finals as they finished with a time of 3:49.71, placing third in their heat.  In the 4x800-meter relay, the team of Lindsey DiazDeLeon, Madyson Rogers, Tori Orton, and Rachel Shepard crossed the final line with a time of 9:47.75 in 13th place.

 

In day two of the championships, Miller and Brent raced in the 200-meter dash prelims and finished 26th and 30th, respectively with times of 25.43 and 25.83 seconds. Griffith then placed 10th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.02. In the field events, Oliva Earl finished in 16th place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.42 meters. The Tigers finished their day in the weight throw with Courtney Hall and Madeleine Robinson standing in 14th and 20th, respectively.  Hall had a mark of 16.24 meters, while Robinson posted a mark of 15.56 meters.

 

In the final day of competition, Robinson kicked the day off by placing 10th in the shot put with a mark of 13.02 meters. Then, Lynette Latocha finished fifth in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.68 meters.  Latocha became the first women's track and field athlete to grab All-American honors in the meet.  Macy O'Neill finished 10th in the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters.  The Tigers did not see any more competition until the final race of the day in the 4x400 meter relay.  The team of Antkoviak, Brent, Miller, and Griffith grabbed All-American honors finishing in third-place with a time of 3:47.40. 

 

The Tigers finished the meet with 10 points and finished in 26th place.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Tigers return to the track on Saturday, March 26th in the ONU Spring Opener.  The festivities going to be held at Ward Field.  The time has yet to be determined.
